Q.What is ‘The Madeline Centre”?
A.The Madeline Centre is a counseling service for at risk youth and their families.
Q.How long has The Madeline Centre been in business?
The Madeline Centre, Inc. is well into its fifth year of operation having sprung from our outpatient counseling facility, The Madeline Center, which began in 1997.
Q. What types of services do you offer?
A. We offer intensive in home counseling which includes behavioral and autism services, therapeutic day treatment and mentoring as well as behavior specialists to work with clients in the schools. We also offer parenting classes and parent aides.
Q.Who qualifies for your services?
Children and adolescents who are at risk of being removed from the home or school due to mental health and behavior problems, or who are in foster or residential care and are being transitioned back into the home.
Q.What age groups do you serve?
A. We serve clients up to the age of 21.
Q. Are your services offered in the home?
Yes, we primarily see clients in their homes. Day treatment works with clients in the schools.
Q. Are your services offered at school?
If appropriate, we can work with clients in the school setting by consulting with school staff as part of the in home counseling. Day treatment is offered in selected schools and includes one in home session a month.
Q. Will you make court appearances on behalf of your client?
A. We can make court appearances to support our clients and families.
Q.Are your services mandatory?
A. Services are not always mandatory, however, there are instances where services have been ordered by the court or by social services. However, at least one parent or guardian must be willing to participate in our services.
Q.How is a referral made?
A. Referrals are typically made by using the TMC Client Intensive In Home Referral Form, Behavioral and Autism In Home Referral Form, Therapeutic Day Treatment Referral Form which are available online from this website. All providers, as well as parents and guardians, are welcome to make referrals.
Q.How long before counseling services can be started?
A. We make every effort to get people into services as soon as possible. Depending upon the urgency of the situation, we can usually start services within 1 to 4 weeks.
Q.How long is the intake appointment?
A. The intake appointment can take from 2 to 4 hours depending on the circumstances involved.
Q.How often will the counselor see the client?
A. The counselor will see clients anywhere from 5 to 12 hours per week depending on the circumstances. This will be determined at intake. In therapeutic day treatment, one counselor works with up to six students per day. The counselor is available to that student all day.
Q.What is the average length of session?
A. The average session for in home counseling is approximately 3 hours.
Q.Do you have a psychiatrist on staff?
A. No, we do not have a doctor on staff, but we work closely with medical professionals.
Q.Can you do ‘Medicine Management”?
A. No, we are not qualified to perform medication management as this must be done by an M.D. Again, we can help to coordinate this with the physician if possible.
Q.Will the counselor work with others in the family?
A. The counselor will involve other family members in working with the identified client as it relates to the client. We also work extensively with the parents on how to be more effective parents.
Q.How long will the services continue?
A. The typical case can last 6 months or longer if needed. If the client shows significant improvement in less than 6 months, the amount of time needed will be adjusted or gradually cut back.
Q.What can the referral source expect to receive from The Madeline Center at Home?
A. The Madeline Centre QMHP’s, (Qualified Mental Health Professionals), will provide monthly and quarterly updates to all referring workers, attend meetings as needed, and will be available to them for other types assistance if needed.
Q.Who pays for the service?
A. Funding will be provided by county and city agencies, mainly through local FAPT or FAST teams, and/or by Medicaid if applicable. Please contact us if you need help with this.
Q.Will private insurance cover services?
A. At this time, we know of no private insurance carriers that fund these services.
Q.What are the qualifications of your counselors?
A. Our QMHP’s (Qualified Mental Health Professionals) have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 1 or more years of experience in related activities, however, the majority of our counselors have a master’s degree with several years experience in directly related clinical activities.
