Therapeutic Day Treatment Counselor- QMHP

Qualifications:

Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) –Clinician in the human service field, trained and experienced in providing psychiatric/mental health services to individuals with a psychiatric diagnosis. Physician or Psychiatrist: doctor of medicine or osteopathy licensed in Virginia and specializing in psychiatry. Psychologist: Master’s degree in psychology from accredited college or university with at least one year clinical experience. Social Worker: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree from a School of Social Work accredited or approved by the Council on Social Work Education with at least one year of clinical experience. Registered Nurse: Registered Nurse licensed in Virginia with at least one year of clinical experience. Mental Health Worker: Bachelor’s degree in human related field with one year clinical experience; OR Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Provider (CPRP) registered with the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (USPRS) a member of International Assn. of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (IAPSRS): OR, Bachelor’s degree in unrelated field or Associates in human services field with three years clinical experience; OR Bachelor’s degree and certification (CPRP) registered with the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (USPRS); OR Bachelor’s degree in unrelated field that includes at least 15 semester credits (or equivalent) in human services field with three years clinical experience; OR four years clinical experience working directly with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation. He/She must hold current TOVA and First Aid/CPR certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties and responsibilities to be assumed by Therapeutic Day Treatment Counselor include ~

  1. Counselor will perform work a minimum of 40 hours per week unless otherwise scheduled.
  2. Counselor will document all services via TMC paperwork procedures and submit all documentation in a timely fashion (no late paperwork).
  3. Counselor will perform after school home consults with the families/consumers to apprise them of progress towards Individualized Service Plan (ISP) goals.
  4. Counselor will provide on-call crisis management as needed.
  5. Counselor will provide individual and group services to youths in a school setting. Services include accompanying a child/adolescent to classes, hall time, lunch, and transitional times.
  6. Counselors will participate in the resolution of school problems; reinforcing the child when having behavioral difficulties, crisis intervention, tutoring and, in general, acting as a role model for the children involved.
  7. Counselor will collaborate with Coordinator to insure consistency of work inside Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for each consumer.
  8. Counselor will collaborate with school administration and faculty to insure consistency of services provided inside the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), and any Behavioral Management Plan (BMP) in place.
  9. Counselor will promote a healthy professional relationship between all staff of The Madeline Centre, Inc. and the schools that host our services.
  10. Counselor will understand, comply and insure staff compliance with all school rules as they pertain to individual sites.
  11. Counselor will assume responsibility for maintaining a healthy, organized, and positive atmosphere for all consumers.
  12. Counselor will assume self-empowerment, when applicable, to solve problems and act on opportunities, but maintain good communication with supervisor(s) to be sure of the appropriateness of the actions taken.
  13. Counselor will attend school faculty meetings that directly involve the clients that we serve.
  14. Counselor will sign off on all ISP’s and return the necessary paperwork to coordinator.
  15. Counselor will supervise home visits as needed.
  16. Counselor will provide supervision to paraprofessionals to ensure Medicaid compliance, timely completion of paperwork, quality assurance and attendance.

Paraprofessional – AA degree in related field, with one year experience providing direct services to persons with a diagnosis of mental illness/gerontology/special education: or AA degree or higher in unrelated field with 3 years experience providing direct services to persons with a diagnosis of mental illness/gerontology/special education: or minimum of 90 hours of classroom training and 12 weeks experience under personal supervision of QMHP providing services to persons with mental illness and one year of experience: or college credits earned toward Bachelor’s in human service field equivalent to AA degree or higher in human service field with one year clinical experience: or Licensed Practical Nurse with one year clinical experience. He/She must hold current TOVA and First Aid/CPR certifications.

Intensive In-Home Therapist

Qualifications:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties and responsibilities to be assumed by a family counselor include:

(a) Provide intensive in-home, crisis-oriented counseling and case management to youths and their families.

(b) Work with clients to foster the development of new improved coping, problem solving, and communication skills.

(c) Develop· individualized service plans in conjunction with referring agencies, other social services professionals, the involved youths and their families.

(d) Implement service plans and monitor progress.

(e) Educate family members regarding existing community services, and act as an advocate in connecting family members to these services.

(f) Respond, or arrange for a response to calls on “family crisis,” on a 24-hour, seven day a week basis.

(g) Maintain up-to-date client records, and prepare the necessary reports in a timely and accurate  manner.

(h) Participate in clinical supervision sessions on a regular basis.

(i) Conduct or participate in case reviews and staffing as required.

(j) Attend court when necessary and maintain close coordination with referring agencies on a  regular basis.

(k) Establish a good working relationship with other public and private agencies/services, and work collaboratively with them.

(l) Support Directors and Administration as required.

(m) Assume self-empowerment, when applicable, to solve problems and act on opportunities, but maintain good communication with supervisor to be sure of the appropriateness of the actions taken.
